Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) & its domains

The module provides inclusive knowledge about IPRs and its role in the R&D sector for evolution and development of Science and Technology. Intellectual property protection acquires a significant international law dimension with the adoption of important international treaties such as TRIPS, GATT, Madrid Protocol, PCT etc.). The course deliver knowledge of the emerging / changing trends in the legal, technical and business issues associated to the IP field.


It also deals with brief introduction to Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks, Designs, Geographical Indications, TKDL, Plant Breeder’s Right (PBR), Plant Variety Rights (PVR), Trade Secrets are covered under this segment. The module also focuses on the concept of bio prospecting and bio-piracy.


IPRs in Software

The module facilitates to provide core study material regarding growing IT and software relations. Researched, developed and compiled by the IPR experts, the course module provides current scenario of IPRs in software, role of IPR in development of software technology and industry, Computer Related Inventions (CRI) and software patents. 


The module facilitates a strategic tool for business and identifies different applications of IP, which may provide a competitive edge. Illustrate the specific importance of IP for business success using familiar examples of value based on IP and of successful businesses built on IP and consistent IP strategies. . This module aims to describe role of IPRs in growth and development of start-ups, Government of India schemes, guidelines for IPRs to facilitate start-ups, start-up contracts and agreements and IP facilitators. 


Purpose of this section is to impart knowledge-growing outsourcing / off shoring opportunities in the fields of IPRs. It includes real industry based aspects related to commercialization, defence of essential assets and efficient management and economic exploitation of developed IP. There is a need for sensitizing and disseminating awareness about Intellectual Property Rights among various stakeholders especially in Electronic and Information Technology (E&IT) sector

Key Business Concerns in Commercializing Intellectual Property Rights

This section promotes high business standards by providing valuable guidance related to commercialization of IPRs, competition and confidential issues, Antitrust laws, assignment of IPR, technology transfer agreements and legal auditing, systems of IP protection and the various ways by which IP can be used to generate revenue. Module helps to gain huge advantage in today’s global knowledge-based economy by providing practical knowledge. It deals with statistics and information on the growth of the relative importance of intangibles in a company's value with alternative models of development and commercialisation

Case Studies and Exercise

This is an advanced knowledge module, which emphasises real-world examples and case studies are explained to facilitate better understanding of the practical circumstances.

This is a learning approach based on real-life participation, not the ability to memorize. In current module, evaluation is based on the ability to process information, turning it into knowledge, critically analysing it and communicating it clearly to others.
